Every change the engine has had, in plain English. When a rating is wrong we say so, change it, and write down what changed — because a battle engine nobody can check is just an opinion with extra steps.
Changes to the engine itself — not one character, but how every fight is decided.
Ordinary humans can now be killed by ordinary weapons: 59 mortal characters had no fragility weakness, so fights between them ended with no winner.
Wording only: the line for a checked way past Infinity no longer says it never crosses the gap, which is not true of every route (Tusk ACT4's nail does travel). No result changes.
Hakai (the God of Destruction technique) erases the body and soul of mortals and lesser gods, which is what it is shown doing. Against an opponent of a higher tier than its user it is now contested rather than an automatic finish. Beerus no longer erases Rune King Thor, the Chaos King, Mikaboshi, Othinus, the World Forger and the other tier-11 cosmic beings; they now beat him, and against Old King Thor neither side can finish the other. Fights against beings at his own tier or below are unchanged by this rule, and a thrown Hakai (Toppo, Ultra Ego Vegeta) was already contestable by an equal or stronger opponent.
Dragon Ball is now tiered by its own fights: everyone in it fights everyone else in one shared power system, so a win by power carries along the chain (if A beat X and X beat B, A ranks above B). The chain comes from about 190 canon fights (manga, Dragon Ball Super and Toriyama's films), 134 of them wins by power, and it is tied to the rest of the site by what is shown on screen: destroying the Moon (Piccolo, Roshi) is tier 7, destroying a planet (Frieza) is tier 8. Up: Roshi, Krillin, kid Gohan, Saiyan-saga Vegeta and Bardock to 7; first-form and Final Form Frieza, Androids 16 and 18, Dabura, base Goku and base Vegeta, Super Saiyan Goku, Cell-Games Gohan and Fat Buu to 8; Future Trunks, Android 17, Ultimate Gohan, Super Buu, Piccolo (Super Hero) and Hit to 9; Gas to 10. The energy attacks of every Dragon Ball fighter with a canon record are now rated to at least match their tier (moon-level 8 at tier 7, planet-level 9 from tier 8 up); Cooler, the 1993 Broly, Android 21 and SS4 Vegeta have no canon fights or feats and are left as they were. Where two site fighters met, the result is now recorded: 12 finished fights count as a demonstrated way for the winner to end that opponent (among them Cell-Games Gohan over Perfect Cell and Gas over Ultra Ego Vegeta), and 10 fights where one side was winning but a rescue, an escape or an already spent opponent stopped it counting as a finish give the winner a lean (among them Toppo over Android 17 and Golden Frieza, and Black Frieza over a burnt-out Gas). Four toughness ratings are corrected: Final Form Frieza (he survived the Spirit Bomb and Namek's destruction), Golden Frieza and Cell-Games Gohan (Perfect Cell's punch barely affected him) up to 7, and Android 17's toughness down from 9 to 8 (nothing shows him tougher than the other Tournament of Power fighters). Speed estimates with no feat behind them are removed from Roshi, Krillin, Androids 16 and 18, Bardock, kid Gohan and Saiyan-saga Vegeta. Most other Dragon Ball toughness and speed ratings have not been researched yet, and some fights still turn on them, including a few across one tier (Android 17 over casual Beerus and Beast Gohan, Hit over Beast Gohan); they are next.
Knock out and hold: a fighter two or more tiers above an opponent they have no other way to end can now beat them down and keep them down. It does not work on an opponent with no physical body or one who can leave (teleporting, phasing, crossing dimensions), and a fighter whose power runs out cannot hold an opponent who keeps reforming. A clean, recorded canon win between two fighters now decides their fight.
Seven engine fixes. An immortal who also heals is now one step harder to end, not impossible to end. When two reality-warpers meet, the stronger one wins (never against a higher tier). Seals, prisons and banishments now hold at their rated strength. Characters who hit hard enough to crack a planet can now finish fighters of their own tier or lower. Cosmic beings can no longer be ended by an ordinary hit. A healing factor now resists knockouts the way regeneration does. Intelligence is now two numbers: science (preparation and gadgets) and tactics (reading the fight).
A character who can come back in a later story can still lose this fight. Only characters shown reforming in the moment (Dr. Manhattan, White Phoenix, Alien X, Anos, Sun Wukong, Phoenix Wolverine, and Wally West on the Mobius Chair, who holds Manhattan's power) keep that protection. The rest now rely on the toughness they show in a fight, researched where none was recorded, and a much faster opponent can now strike a reality-warper before the warp lands, unless their defence works by instinct (Franklin Richards, Dr. Doom with the Beyonder's power). Nine keep it for now (Azathoth, Featherine, the King in Yellow, Bernkastel, both Scarlet Witches, Legion, Gilgamesh, Othinus), until the engine can rate their toughness fairly. Nine beings with no physical body (Eternity, the Living Tribunal, Azathoth and others) are marked as such.
Beings with no physical body to hit can no longer be finished by punches, energy blasts or disintegration; erasure, soul attacks, Hakai, future alteration, mental shutdown or sealing can still end them. A reality-warper whose defence works by instinct is no longer stopped just because the opponent strikes first. And an attack that cannot reach its target at all (a touch attack on someone far faster) no longer counts as a kill.
When two fighters in the same tier can each finish the other and speed cannot say who strikes first, the engine used to give no winner however far ahead one of them was. Now, when one fighter's lead is bigger than the first-strike edge the model would give either of them, the model names that fighter: its answer is the same whichever of them it gives that edge to. This is the model's preference on the overall comparison, not a finding about who acts first, and the higher-tier wins added in 1.8.29 are now described the same way. Who would actually strike first is still not established, and closer fights still have no winner. Also, a domain now gets through Infinity only if it is at least as refined as the Infinity user's own domain, as Gojo explains in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 15.
The Flash (Wally West and Barry Allen) is now treated as too fast to be hit by fighters rated clearly slower than him: an attack that has to travel to him or touch him no longer counts as a finish. Powers that work without reaching him (reality warping, erasure, mind control, a domain's payload, and seals or time stops that actually hold him) still count. By the site owner's ruling, Mastered Ultra Instinct Goku and the Dragon Ball fighters rated slower than him never land a hit on either Flash, and the Flash's phasing strike finishes them from inside, except Majin Buu, who regenerates and reforms. A fighter who cannot reach him is no longer shown as ahead. Where the speed ratings are too close to settle it, a finish that depends on landing a hit is no longer counted as verified, for either side.
Two fixes. In the direct speed comparison, a fighter with no speed rating no longer gets an invented speed advantage; that comparison now only counts when both sides have a speed rating. And when two fighters can each finish the other and nothing settles who strikes first, the higher-tier fighter now wins only if its lead after everything else is counted is bigger than a first-strike edge could overturn; otherwise the fight still ends with no winner.
Preparation now counts only when a fight allows it. A fighter's preparation rating used to add to their score in every fight, including a random encounter where nobody gets time to prepare. It still counts in full when preparation is allowed.
Someone said a result looked wrong. Here is what we found — including the times we looked properly and disagreed, and the times you found something we had not fixed.

Rick's automatic defences are now on his sheet: implants that fire on their own, heart plating, a defence mesh and wristwatch shields.
Life Bringer's reality warping raised to 9: he restored Archeopia, a dead world he had devoured (Ultimates 2015 #2), the scale of the site's other 9s. Owner ruling, 31 Oct 2026: Life Bringer is that powerful, below God Emperor Doom.
Re-rated from the comics: fed on four planets he destroyed a Mad Celestial (Fantastic Four #603); as Life Bringer he fended off the attack that felled the Living Tribunal (Ultimates 2 #3). His Power Cosmic now counts as reality warping, which gets through Gojo's Infinity.

Re-checked against Steel Ball Run (through the JoJo Wiki's chapter summaries). Tusk ACT4 broke through D4C Love Train's wall of light, a defence that deflects all misfortune, and reached Valentine in the pocket dimension he hid in (ch. 86). Gojo's Infinity does the same job, stopping attacks before they arrive, so we now count ACT4 as a way past it: a ruling by comparison, since the two have never met. A hit now ends Gojo, but Gojo still wins their fights: he is far faster and much harder to put down, and one blow ends Johnny's ordinary human body. In the crowd mode it now takes about 12,500 Johnnys to beat Gojo at his peak, instead of no number at all.
Re-checked against the Umineko no Naku Koro ni script (Episode 8). The site rule that gave this character an automatic win over most opponents, as a being who "acts from outside the story", is removed: re-checked against the source material, they are never shown acting on the story itself against an opponent who could not reach them. Their fights are now decided by the powers on their sheet, as Cosmic Armour Superman's and Mandrakk's have been since 30 Oct. Writing Lambdadelta's death was a real kill, but done with Lambdadelta in the same room attacking her: an ability inside the fight, which she keeps. Battler hit her protected miko twice in front of her.
Re-checked against The Multiversity and Justice League Incarnate. The haunted comic that reached readers was the Gentry's work; the Empty Hand meets Superman, Justice Incarnate and Darkseid on its throne on Earth 7. Its win over Darkseid (Justice League Incarnate #5) is now on its record, with the Great Darkness making the capture.
Re-checked against Mike Carey's Lucifer. He never used the Demiurgic power on an opponent; Sandalphon speared him in the back and Lucifer killed him (#54).
Re-checked against Mike Carey's Lucifer. The Void and his own cosmos are places he goes, and others reached him there; he never used his power over creation on an opponent mid-fight.
Re-checked against Doomsday Clock (2017-19) and The Button. His changes to DC history are real, but he made them by travelling in time and doing them by hand. His kill of Reverse-Flash in The Button is now on his record.
Re-checked against his post-1986 Superman appearances and Impulse #86. His fourth-wall moments are real, but they are aimed at DC's editors, never at an opponent. Superman and Impulse both send him home by trickery: a rewired typewriter that spelled his name backwards, make-up that turned blue under studio lights, and a comic he read in a mirror. (His results still come mostly from the separate cartoon-force rule, which is the next thing to fix.)
Re-checked against the Jim Corrigan Spectre. His reality warping is used inside the story, on the people in front of him; the Great Darkness cast him out (Swamp Thing #50).
Re-checked against Justice League (2018-20) and Dark Nights: Death Metal. The Judges of the Source sealed her in the Source Wall, the Lanterns cut her Crisis energy, and the Darkest Knight killed her.
Re-checked against his only appearances found, Guardians of the Galaxy (1990) #45-50, as the 31st-century Celestial. His one act is muzzling the Protege in the same room (#50), after the Hawk God had blasted the Protege.
Re-checked against Thanos: The Infinity Siblings, Conflict and Ending (2018-19). He becomes the biggest thing inside Marvel's cosmology by absorbing the abstracts, not something outside it; his absorption and erasure stay. The citation on his win over the Living Tribunal is corrected to The Infinity Ending.
Re-checked against his Marvel appearances. Doctor Strange beat him by turning Order and Chaos's power on him, and Thanos tricked him out of the Soul Gem.
Re-checked against Iceman (1984-85) and his later appearances. Iceman knocked him down inside his own realm and his attempt to erase Iceman failed (Iceman #4).
Re-checked against its Marvel appearances. It judges the multiverse from inside Marvel's cosmology and serves the One Above All; the Beyonders killed it (New Avengers vol. 3 #30).
Re-checked against Secret Wars (1984-85) #10-12. Captain America walked up to him and Thor's hammer broke through his wall; the Beyonder took the power back through Klaw. The record that he beat the Beyonder is switched off: Doom drained him while holding Galactus's power, before he had this one.
Re-checked against Secret Wars (1984-85), Secret Wars II and Dark Avengers #10-12. Everything he does is done to matter and energy in the same world as his opponent; the Sentry disintegrated him in Dark Avengers #12.
Re-checked against Secret Wars (1984-85) and Secret Wars II. His record is corrected too: the fight logged against the Beyonder-powered Molecule Man was with Owen's own powers in 1986, and he took his power back from Doom by working through Klaw, not in a straight fight.
The "meta" rule (an automatic win over most opponents, as a being who manipulates the framework holding reality) is removed, for the same reason as Cosmic Armour Superman's: the Monitors' realm is where he fights, not a power he carries into any fight. His results against everyone else stay the same, now decided by his own powers instead of the rule. One result changes: he now beats Cosmic Armour Superman, who only won their fight in the comics after Zillo Valla's intervention and with Mandrakk already winning.
Re-checked against Dark Nights: Death Metal (2020-21). Added: Doctor Manhattan's disintegration (he blew B-Rex out of existence and wiped out his servants at a thought) and planet-throwing strength. Removed: conceptual erasure (he killed Perpetua with his fists, after the Lanterns had cut her power), regeneration (no source we checked shows it; Wonder Woman ended him for good), invulnerability (Superboy-Prime battered him), willpower immunity, higher-dimensional nature and a speed estimate. Reality warping stays at 9; awareness 9 to 8. He stays tier 12 and now beats Cosmic Armour Superman.
Re-checked against Final Crisis: Superman Beyond #1-2, his only appearance. "Meta layer" is where he fights (the Monitors' realm, outside the multiverse), not a power: he perceives the story around him but never edits it or reality, so the "meta" rule that gave him automatic wins over most opponents is removed. His one fight ended with Mandrakk knocked off the edge into the Overvoid, after Mandrakk had beaten him down until he collapsed; the robot ended blind and beyond repair. Also removed: conceptual erasure, reality warping, invulnerability and a speed estimate, none of them shown. Strength 10 to 9, area attacks 10 to 8, toughness 10 to 9. He stays tier 12. The Darkest Knight and Mandrakk now beat him.
Re-checked against Thor (2018) and Avengers Forever (2021), as the far-future Old Man Phoenix. Tier 8 to 9: as the Phoenix host he slices up stars and burns out black holes, and he had the upper hand on the All-Father Thor until a bolt of divine lightning stopped him. Strength and energy up to 9, healing up to 8 (Thor punched through his chest and he got straight back up). Removed: reality warping and a speed estimate, neither shown. He still loses to Beerus's Hakai, which erases him at a tier below.
Re-checked against What If...? (2021). Planet-shattering energy blasts added (he blew up Xandar with Captain Marvel at its core, and another planet in the finale). Reality warping lowered from 9 to 7: he makes armies and ships with the Reality Stone but never rewrites a universe. Removed: immunity to mind attacks (the one attack on his mind, Zola's upload, worked) and a speed estimate with no feat. Losing a Stone is a major weakness, not a critical one: the Soul Stone was prised out of him mid-fight and he carried on. His Time Stone freeze is restored: he froze the Guardians in the finale, and an older note saying he never froze anyone was wrong. He stays tier 9. Against Beerus the result is now open: both can finish, and nothing settles who strikes first.
Fact-checked: no planet-destroying feat on screen, but Dragon Ball's power levels put him far above the fighters who destroyed the Moon ("over 10,000" after Guru, ch. 274, against Piccolo's 329), so tier 7 with energy 8. The Destructo Disc is added as armour-piercing (7): it cut off Frieza's tail a chapter after Vegeta's full blast left Frieza unhurt (ch. 298-299). Removed: invulnerability (he is impaled and killed several times), a stamina weakness that no scene shows, and a speed rating that no scene supports.
Fact-checked: he destroyed the Moon with the MAX Power Kamehameha (Dragon Ball ch. 51-52), so energy 8 and tier 7. Skill 7. The Evil Containment Wave is added as a seal (6): it worked on Dercori and Vegeta and missed Piccolo Daimao and Frost. His speed rating is removed: no scene shows how fast he is (Jiren was toying with him when he dodged, and Whis called it "a far cry" from Ultra Instinct). His stamina limit is real and stays: he collapses after every big blast. Being distracted by indulgence is now minor: it worked once and he resisted it in the Tournament of Power.
Re-rated from the comics: with Hope she brought down the Dark Phoenix and ended the Phoenix on Earth (Avengers vs. X-Men #12), and she rebuilt Krakoa's resurrection system to take in twenty million dead mutants (Trial of Magneto). Her weakness is now her grief, not an outside power source.
Re-rated from the comics: he beat Thor head-to-head and melted the Odinsword in Thor #300.
Re-rated from the films: she overpowered Captain Marvel, beat Professor X and took Kamar-Taj, so she is no longer rated like a street-level fighter.
Re-rated from the comics: he has banished and imprisoned Surtur and contained a galaxy-sized storm; the Odinsleep no longer counts as tiring mid-fight.
Re-rated from the comics: he tore the Sentry in half in King in Black #1, so he now sits above the Sentry.
Re-mapped from what he is shown doing in the Greek games (God of War I-III, Chains of Olympus, Ghost of Sparta, Ascension). Five ratings had been copied from an old form without research: strength 10 is now 7 (he out-muscles Hercules and tears gods apart, but nothing he does is planet-scale; the Titans fall to his weapons), and invulnerability, speed, divine authority and enhanced senses are removed or lowered (no feat). Regeneration is removed (he never heals himself on screen; Gaia and Hope restore him). His anchor is removed: escaping the Underworld happened in later scenes, which does not protect anyone in a fight. Also lowered: energy 6, magic 6, rage 7. Kept: ripping out a god's soul with the Claws of Hades (8), cutting his way out of Cronos (escape 7), weapon mastery 10. Tier 9 -> 8: his best win by power is Zeus at full power, and that win stays recorded.
Re-mapped from his true form at full power (DC All In Special #1, 2024; DC K.O., 2025-26), with Final Crisis kept as the record of what has beaten him in weaker states. Toughness 9 (he fought King Omega Superman through time and was knocked out of the universe, not killed), reality warping 9 (he remade a universe into the Absolute Universe, slowly, not mid-fight), strength 9, speed 8, Omega Beams 8 (one blast wiped out Wonder Woman, Batman and the Absolute heroes; Superman survived it), mind control 8. Removed, with no feat behind them: concept destruction, soul manipulation, "no physical body", existing across dimensions and his universal anchor; his old weakness (an anchor that conceptual weapons could cut) is replaced by radion, which only specific weapons carry. He now loses to every tier-13, most tier-12s and most of the other tier-11 cosmic beings (among them Rune King Thor and the Spectre), to several tier-10 reality warpers (the Infinity Gauntlet Thanos, House of M Wanda) and to Dr. Manhattan, who can take him apart and reforms himself; against base Superman, Plastic Man and some cosmic beings neither side can finish the other.
Re-mapped from what he is shown doing in Mike Carey's Lucifer (2000-2006), not from his reputation. Reality warping, matter control and unmaking matter rated 9: he shaped a universe and unmade Adam, but needed Michael's power for the first and never did either to an opponent in a fight. Toughness 9, banishment 8, light and fire attacks 8, tactics 9; speed removed (no feat). Where the evidence allowed a range, he is rated at the top of it. His weakness is now his wings and feathers, which have been stolen or poisoned, but only with preparation. His recorded win over Michael is switched off: Michael was holding back. He now loses to the absolute beings, every tier-13, Eternity and the Lord of Nightmares; against most other tier-12 beings neither side can finish the other. If someone can show a feat that puts him higher, he will be changed.
Two recorded wins switched off: neither Oblivion nor the In-Betweener was absorbed in The Infinity Conflict (2018) or The Infinity Ending (2019), so those fights are now decided by the two sheets.
The flag button under every result is the most useful thing on this site. You do not need to explain yourself — “Naruto’s faster than that” was enough to find a character with no speed rating at all. Sign in first and we will credit you here by name.
