Siege of Troy β another Sandbox experiment βοΈποΈ
The idea is simple:
ONE CHARACTER.
ONE LEGENDARY FORTRESS.
GET INSIDE AS FAST AS YOU CAN.
You can smash through the walls, destroy the gate, go over the top, or use whatever ridiculous abilities your character has to find another way in.
This is mainly another experiment for the eventual WhoWinsAI Sandbox, so don't take the balance too seriously yet.
I'm using it to test systems that will eventually be useful across much bigger games and scenarios.
ββββββββββββββββββββ
𧱠MODULAR DESTRUCTION
ββββββββββββββββββββ
The walls aren't one giant object with a health bar.
They're made from thousands of individual sections that can be damaged, destroyed and lose their structural support.
Hit one spot hard enough and you can punch a small opening through it.
Destroy the supports around a larger section and parts of the wall can collapse.
Different attacks can also leave completely different kinds of damage behind.
ββββββββββββββββββββ
β‘ EVERY CHARACTER SOLVES THE SIEGE DIFFERENTLY
ββββββββββββββββββββ
This has probably been the funniest part to test.
π GOKU
Blast holes through the fortifications with Kamehameha.
β‘ THE FLASH
Run straight up the walls, race across the battlements and attack the gate from inside.
π SAITAMA
Charge straight at Troy and physically punch through the wall.
π€ DOCTOR DOOM
Bring Doombots along and turn the siege into an invasion.
π° BUGS BUNNY
Pull an increasingly ridiculous ACME mallet out of nowhere and smash the wall with it.
ββββββββββββββββββββ
π THEN I ADDED GALACTUS...
ββββββββββββββββββββ
Galactus can change his size.
So naturally I kept pressing GROW.
6 metres...
42 metres...
108 metres...
Eventually I was about 180 metres tall looking down at Troy like it was a model village while dragging cosmic eye beams across the walls. π
ββββββββββββββββββββ
π THEN I ADDED ZENO...
ββββββββββββββββββββ
He snaps his fingers.
The wall doesn't explode.
It doesn't collapse.
It just isn't there anymore.
Over 6,000 pieces of the fortress simply disappear.
The game responds:
βWHAT WALL?β
π
ββββββββββββββββββββ
π¬ WHY AM I BUILDING THIS?
ββββββββββββββββββββ
Siege of Troy isn't supposed to be some perfectly balanced competitive game right now.
It's another test bed for the much bigger Sandbox project.
Right now I'm testing:
𧱠Modular environments
π₯ Structural destruction
π₯ Different damage types
π― Precision targeting
βοΈ Mass NPC battles
π Size manipulation
π Character-specific movement
β¨ Persistent attack effects
π° Multiple ways to complete an objective
π Larger interactive maps
ββββββββββββββββββββ
π THE EVENTUAL SANDBOX
ββββββββββββββββββββ
The important thing is that none of these systems are only useful for Troy.
Once the technology works, the same systems could eventually power castles, cities, military bases, alien fortresses, fantasy worlds and eventually completely user-created scenarios.
That's the dream:
PICK A CHARACTER.
PICK A WORLD.
PICK AN OBJECTIVE.
CHANGE THE RULES.
THEN SEE WHAT HAPPENS.
ββββββββββββββββββββ
For now though...
Troy has volunteered for testing.
And judging by what Galactus, Zeno and Bugs Bunny just did to it...
I don't think Troy is particularly happy about that. π
